In Morocco, who is in charge at home? The woman or the man

Almost every time I hear someone speak on the subject of who is in charge in the home in Morocco, I hear… It is the woman who is in charge! The woman is the one who, according to many, cuts the cod in the bosom of a Moroccan family. But… I sincerely believe that nothing is said about that. It is said to make women happy. But the reality is that in Morocco it commands the man, he is the king of the house. The one who has the last word and the one who decides.

Morocco is a macho country, without hesitation. It will be because of its culture, its traditions. But it is like that, being born a woman means being born at a disadvantage. It means not being able to perform as a person. At most, if they are lucky they will be married to a good man.

Therefore, the woman is responsible for taking care of the children, going to the market, making the food. But they, the majority, are on the sidelines of the really important matters.

Most of the women in Morocco do not work. Obviously, we cannot generalize it. There are women who have studied and work being great executives. But if we talk about rural areas, women are the ones who lose out in all cases.

Or if not, you just have to take a look when you make a Morocco Tour and cross the mountains or the roads of the High Atlas. You will see women loaded with large bales of firewood, leading their children by the hands, and in many cases, the husband accompanies them. A few meters later, alone, calm, as if nothing had happened, turning his wife into a mule of load.

Morocco nowadays!

In Morocco, there is a lot to change, especially in terms of freedoms. Countless times I have hallucinated with the submission of women and I have ended up putting my hands on my head, but I sincerely believe that women are not yet ready to consider themselves the same as men, because they themselves do not believe it, that is the great trouble.

Why does the woman decide to have so many children? It is very clear, she is looking for a better future with it, where her children will be in charge and responsible for ensuring that she does not lack anything, and while she will sit down to prepare tea for the newcomers.

Talking about women in rural areas of Morocco or women who live in big cities like Rabat or Casablanca, with a high social-economic level, is very different.
So, in Morocco, who’s boss and in charge at home? Well, it’s very clear, the one who brings the money home is in charge, neither more nor less. When women become independent and work outside the home, then things will change and they will get the place they deserve in society.

For this, illiteracy will need to be eradicated, since that is undoubtedly one of the main problems, although unfortunately today, I do not think it is possible.
