The first question we are always asked by clients is: “Do you need an international driving license in Morocco?

Do you need an international driving license in Morocco? Well, the answer is NO! You don’t need an international driving license!

This permit is required in some countries that are not members of the European Union. But if you are going to rent a car in Morocco to move around at your own pace, it is not necessary to process it.

What documents do you need to bring with you to rent a car in Morocco?

Well, you must present to the company you are going to rent a car in Morocco. Your driver’s license, and of course, it must be valid. Not to mention, your passport, your national identity card and to make the payment, a credit card.

The way to proceed to rent a car in Morocco is easy. Firstly, the car rental company will fill in the document with all your personal data and will ask you for your credit card details, as a guarantee of payment. This is even if you pay them in cash.

They will give you all the documents of the car with the contract that you have signed. Thereafter, you will be able to start your routes in Morocco at your own pace.

What to Know:

When renting a car in Morocco, you have to be aware that driving is very different than in any other country, especially in big cities like Marrakech, Casablanca, Rabat, etc. …. In these cities, driving is chaotic, it is as if everyone wants to be the first and pass within millimeters of your car at least when I drive in Marrakech. It costs me a lot to adapt to the dangerous driving in the city.

Also know that in the cities there are many motorcycles, and many of them drive without insurance. So if you are unlucky enough to get hit, you will most likely have to pay the car rental company for the damage to the vehicle.

On the roads, driving is more “calm”, you have to be especially careful with the police radars. Because they hide like lions hunting for prey and after two kilometers they will stop you and ask you for all the documentation and that is when you will discover the corruption of the police, as in many cases what they are looking for is not to give you a fine. But that you give them money for their own pocket.

Know also that, in Morocco, the continuous and broken lines, it is as if they did not exist, they only exist for police purposes, but not for drivers.

And there are no breathalyzer controls, with the little gadgets to blow, if not, the police detect it by their sense of smell.

Marrakech Camel trips, wish you good luck in your adventure of renting a car in Morocco.
